If you experience a power outage in your area, it’s important to know what to do and who to call. In deregulated areas of Texas, your utility company is in charge of repairing electrical lines and restoring power if there’s a power outage. Texans should call their utility company – not their energy provider – to report power outages or to receive updates about when their electricity will be restored.

There are four main utility companies that operate in Texas: CenterPoint Energy, Oncor Electric, Texas-New Mexico Power, and AEP Texas. Here is how you can get in touch with your utility when there is a power outage.

  • CenterPoint Energy’s service area: Houston metro area and sections of eastern and southern Texas. Find a complete list of areas that CenterPoint Energy serves here.
  • Report a power outage to CenterPoint Energy by calling 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143.
