Discover Your Energy Options with Energy Plus

  • Headquarters: Philadelphia, PA
  • Founded: 2007
  • Subsidiary of: NRG Energy, Inc.
  • Markets served: Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania

Energy Plus, founded in 2007, is an energy supplier servicing the Northeast and parts of the Midwest that focuses on rewarding customers for paying their bill each month on time. In 2011 the supplier was acquired by Fortune 200 company NRG Energy Inc., growing the parent company’s consumer base to nearly 3 million. Energy Plus offers many rate plans for natural gas and electricity, including an option to support environmentally friendly efforts through renewable energy.

Energy choice gives you power to choose your energy

The power to choose your energy supplier divided the energy industry into two main parts: energy distribution and energy supply. Energy distributors, classically known as utilities, are the entities that distribute electricity and natural gas through infrastructure while maintaining the systems that support the grid. Energy suppliers, such as Energy Plus, are responsible for marketing and selling energy to consumers. Through this established marketplace you can compare electricity suppliers, giving you the power to choose where you purchase your energy.

Variable- and stable-rate supply plans are usually available when you compare electricity suppliers. With a variable-rate supply plan, the supply rate at which you are charged may change each month. Stable-rate supply plans offer consumers electricity at a consistent supply rate over the length of a contracted amount of time. However, variable-rate supply plans usually do not require long-term commitment. Determine which plan works best for you before committing to any contract.

Get rewarded when paying bills

If a consumer chooses Energy Plus as their supplier, they can select a partner rewards program or cash back program. With Energy Plus partners, such as travel and retail companies, you can earn points each time you pay your bill. If you choose to participate in the cash back program, you will receive rebate checks after earning enough points. It takes two months to receive an enrollment bonus, but partner rewards will begin to accrue as soon as your service activates.

Program helps reduce pollution

The Green Option program offered by Energy Plus matches a consumer’s electricity usage and contributes the dollar amount to wind-generated power. Consumers can actively participate in supporting renewable energy by reducing dependence on fossil fuel based power generation. However, by enrolling in the Green Option, consumers are not signing up to receive renewable energy. They will still receive electricity via the same distributor, but will be supporting wind-generated power that ultimately contributes to the national grid.
