About Smart Energy
Smart Energy is an electricity company based in New York offering 100% renewable electricity plans to 12 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. The company provides clean energy with affordable rates to customers by sourcing electricity from solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal energy through renewable energy credits (RECs).
RECs represent the environmental benefits of producing electricity from renewable sources rather than fossil fuels. When electricity is generated from renewable sources and put into the power grid, Smart Energy purchases RECs to match 100% of its customer’s electricity usage.

SaveOnEnergy’s tips for easy electricity service setup
- Read your plan’s Electricity Facts Label before signing up. It contains important information, including the price per kilowatt-hour based on your energy usage.
- Enjoy hassle-free supplier setup. Once your order is confirmed, your new supplier will set up service with your utility or transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP) — but don’t worry, there shouldn’t be any interruption to your power during the switch.
- Understand your electricity bill. Your local TDSP will still deliver electricity and maintain electric infrastructure, including meters and power lines. Your utility fees can be found as TDU or TDSP charges on your monthly bill. They are independent of your supplier rate.
How to move or transfer service with Smart Energy
If your current contract is ending, expect two notifications from Smart Energy. The initial notification will arrive 45 to 60 days before the expiration date as a notice you are nearing the end of the contract. A second notification will be sent 30 days before the date with details about your options to continue service or explore alternatives. If you are moving homes, you will need to contact Smart Energy to determine if the plan is available for your new address.
