There is power in choice
Energy rates entered into a competitive marketplace when consumers gained the power to choose their energy supplier. Energy suppliers, such as Viridian Energy, are responsible for selling energy to consumers at specified rates, but do not distribute energy. Instead, utilities, often referred to as energy distributors, are responsible for distribution of energy sold. Distributors maintain the infrastructure and take care of power outages when they occur.
Choosing electricity plans with Viridian
Viridian Energy offers several electricity plans to consumers. Viridian has a 36-month fixed-rate plan that offers price protection when energy prices change. It also features a back-end rebate for when the 36-month term is completed. A variable-rate plan, known as minus5, has a 12-month term at 5 percent less than the Utility Price Index, or average value of market prices. In addition to the minus5 plan, Viridian offers a term-free variable-rate plan, with no cancellation fees and the ability to switch to another plan at any time.
These electricity plans are available in combination with ways to decrease carbon emissions and increase renewable energy generation. Viridian has a goGREENER option that matches consumers’ electricity usage and purchases renewable energy certificates on the consumers’ behalf. There is also the goCLEANER option that matches consumers’ gas usage and purchases carbon offsets.
Viridian is power with purpose
The electricity sold by Viridian Energy is 50 percent renewable, and natural gas sold is matched with 25 percent carbon offsets. Viridian also states that it is committed to improving sustainability in serviced communities by sponsoring, hosting and supporting community events. The supplier also considers itself globally responsible and has pledged to complete a sustainability project on different continents for seven years. This project, 7 Continents in 7 Years, began in 2011 and concluded in 2017.
