Commonwealth Edison Company, or ComEd, is an electricity utility and subsidiary of the Chicago-based Exelon Corporation. The utility delivers energy to more than 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois with the help of more than 90,000 miles of power lines. ComEd’s service area spans from its southern point in Iroquois County to its northern point at the Wisconsin border, and from its eastern Iowa border to its western Indiana border. With more than 11,400-square-miles of territory, the Commonwealth Edison Company serves about 70 percent of Illinois’ state population.

As part of Exelon Corporation, ComEd is a unit of an international system that serves 48 states, the District of Columbia and Canada, providing energy distribution and electric supply rates.

As stated on its website, ComEd has a proven track record in addressing key community issues and investing in organizations that support education, the environment, arts and various neighborhood programs. The utility is also heavily involved within the communities it serves, helping areas with various programs such as ComEd in Pink, its CONSTRUCT Program and Energy Force.

One of the utility’s unique programs is its CONSTRUCT Program that was launched in 2013. This program is 11 weeks long and offers 60 students in-depth training and guidance needed for entry-level jobs in construction. It provides students with the skills needed to enter the construction industry, and ComEd’s program has a diverse alliance of companies that is committed to helping students achieve their goals. More than 150 students have participated, and almost 80 percent have been offered employment.
